Well, a year ago I decided I would like to make a small pond in our back yard. I am an avid gardener and "water gardening" seemed like something I would like to take a stab at. I bought a pond liner for a pond roughly 9 feet by 5 feet by 2 and a half feet deep. Since last year was so rainy I did not dig the pond until this spring - with a little help from Sam and David (thanks guys!)
After the hole was finished I laid out the underlay (a fabric that protects the rubber liner) and then put in the liner. I found out later that my next few steps were in the wrong order - I could have saved myself a lot of work! - but the final result was the same.

- I filled the pond with water
- added the rocks to hold down the liner and disguise liner edge
- added plants and fish
- added more rocks and gravel
- put in a bio falls filter and pump
- and finally...fine tuned the rocks and the landscaping (oh, and added more plants and more fish!)
- enjoy!
- dig the hole
- fine tune the shape
- lay down underlay and liner
- install bio falls (I'll explain later what these are) and skimmer (which I could not add because I had already added the water and had stupidly trimmed off the excess liner!) and pump
- add rocks to hold down liner and hide edge
- add gravel
- fill with water
- turn on pump
- add plants
- add fish
- enjoy!
